Why Organic?

Today, using the term 'organic' is unregulated in most markets and is often misleading. Products labeled as 'organic' offer no guarantee that they are free from synthetic chemicals or pesticides unless certified by a credible independent body.

Aroma Tierra organic range is 'Certified organic' by ECOCERT, a globally reputed independent certification body from France that follows very stringent organic certification standards. We ensure that everything from beginning to end is organic – farmland is organic for at least 3 years, seeds are organic and non-GMO, farming is done without pesticides and chemical fertilizers, cleaning agents are organic, extraction is organic, and packaging does not contaminate the organic product.

Know More

Widely known as a healing herb, Rosemary has become one of the world’s most popular medicinal and culinary plants. Native to the Mediterranean region, Rosemary is a perennial herb that belongs to the well-known mint family and is characterized by a strong, distinctive fragrance that is energizing, woody, and herbaceous. Thriving by the Mediterranean Sea, it derives its name from the Latin words ‘ros’ (dew) and ‘marinus’ (sea), meaning “dew of the sea”. An interesting legend has that when baby Jesus, Mary, and Joseph were fleeing Egypt, Mary placed her blue coat over a white-flowered Rosemary bush which changed the flowers from white to blue and ever since, in honor of the Virgin Mary, it is fondly called the ‘Rose of Mary’. The first mention of Rosemary dates back to 5000 BC, where it was found on cuneiform stone tablets. It also appears in the scriptures of ancient Greeks and Romans such as ‘De materia medica’, an influential book on herbal medicine written in 50-70AD by a Greek physician and pharmacologist Pedanius Dioscorides. It was introduced and naturalized in China as early as in 220AD, reached Britain during the 8th century, and later spread to the Americas with the help of early European settlers. As the popularity of the herb grew, the production of Rosemary Essential Oil spread across continents with Spain and Morocco leading the production.

Since ancient times Rosemary Essential Oil was valued for its culinary, medicinal, and aromatic properties. During the mid-1300s, Rosemary was used to fight bubonic plague, and there is mention of grave-robbers who consumed a herbs concoction containing Rosemary, called ‘Four Thieves Vinegar,’ to protect themselves from the plague. In addition to being widely used as a food seasoning, Rosemary Essential Oil today finds applications in hair-care, beard-care, health & wellness, and aromatherapy owing to its anti-microbial, antiseptic, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Rosemary Essential Oil is widely known to promote hair growth by stimulating hair follicles, promoting circulation, and improving scalp health. When applied with Clary Sage Essential Oil, Castor Seed Oil, and Black Seed Oil, it helps prevent premature greying of hair. Rosemary Essential Oil also helps to promote beard health and stimulate its growth. Diffusing Rosemary Essential Oil is known to increase concentration, improve brain function, and combat the feeling of fatigue and exhaustion. It is also known to relieve muscular aches and joint pains by promoting circulation. Due to its widespread use, Rosemary Essential Oil is a subject on which extensive scientific research is ongoing to determine its potential benefits and applications.

Aroma Tierra offers high-quality Organic Rosemary Essential Oil made by careful steam distillation of Rosemary flowers and leaves harvested from organic farming of Spain's lush mountain slopes. It is 100% pure, natural, certified organic and potent, and is free from any chemicals, preservatives, and solvents.

Perfumery Applications

Often thought of as a culinary or medicinal herb, Rosemary, surprisingly, finds application in the perfume industry as well. Interestingly, Rosemary was the critical element in the first-ever alcohol-based perfume of the modern world, the ‘Eau de la Reine de Hongrie’, commonly known as ‘Hungary water’, which is believed to have been commissioned by the then Queen of Hungary, Elizabeth. The Queen owed her beauty and health to this creation and was known to have supposedly attracted a suitor even at the age of 72! Hungary water was certainly popular in Europe for centuries before the making of the now popular, Eau de Cologne. Rosemary’s stimulating, herbal perfume creatio ‘Hungary water’ also prominently features in the famous story ‘Sleeping Beauty’ wherein it is used to wake up the princess.

The herbal and camphoraceous aroma of Rosemary adds a unique and uplifting touch to several modern-day fragrances. When used in making perfumes, Rosemary is used similar to Lavender, as a middle note to add strong, herbal, and minty notes, and is often added to the top notes of Fougéres and Colognes. While Lavender has a sharp, aromatic quality, Rosemary is quite the opposite and tends to blend into the background, giving the wearer a slight touch of a minty, herbal fragrance. Its woody, herbaceous aroma is often used delicately in feminine fragrances, though it is quite prevalent in masculine fragrances.

Rosemary Essential Oil pairs well with lemony and citrusy notes such as Bergamot, Lemon, and Orange to enhance their fresh, invigorating, and stimulating fragrance. It appears in the popular fragrance Dior’s Eau Sauvage, in which the Rosemary shines through the other notes. It is also known to seamlessly blend in Fougére, Herbal, Oriental, and Woody oils such as Frankincense, Lavender, Thyme, Basil, Cedar, and others.
